Whether shod for the football gridiron, snow trails or running track, Rumford product Edmond (Ed) Hache was the man for all seasons if ever there was one.

As the swift halfback for the Stephens High Panthers football team, he was twice an all-state selection. With his football celebrity plus endurance, Hache sparked Stephens' winter sports team to three straight state championships and two New England titles.

He won four state cross-country skiing championships and three New England titles. Ed was a teammate of Aurele Legere (MSHF Inductee) and former National Ski Jumping Champion.

All told, Hache won over 40 medals in snowshoeing competing for Stephens and Assumption College. According to the International Snowshoe Association, his world marks still stand for the 100, 220, and 440 dashes.

Come spring, the Rumford prodigy won the state Class A 100 and 220-yard dashes in track for three years and stepped up to win the 440 and 880 his senior year to finish off his record range of distances. The Rev. Hache was ordained to the Roman Catholic Priesthood in 1945. He was later elevated to the rank of Monsignor in recognition of his outstanding leadership that went well beyond the pulpit. He organized St. Philip's Parish in Auburn and was instrumental in the building of the church.

Hache is survived by four sisters, Martha Bartlett, Simone Joyce. Jacqueline Melanson, and Joan Peabody.
