Michele Hallett, Boston College distance running standout, is the 1986 Maine Sports Hall of Fame President's Award winner for a female athlete.

The award is for conspicuous success beyond the state's borders. She is the first female high school scholar-athlete to receive a $500 scholarship.

After a brilliant cross country and track career at Aroostook Central Institute marked by many championships and records, Hallett has been a big winner all four years in college while accumulating a 3.5 average leading to a nursing degree.

Her list of laurels at Boston College include:

  • Big East cross country champion - '82, '85
  • Greater Boston cross country - '82, '84
  • New England 3,000 meters - '82
  • Big East 10,000 meters - '85
  • Big East 3,000 - '86
  • Greater Boston 5,000 - '85, '86
  • BC record holder, cross country course - 1,500, 3,000, 5,000, 10,000 (incdoors and outdoors)

Named Big East scholarship winner, Big East All Academic and Eagle of the Year in 1986, and received the Boston College Femald of the Year Award.

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 for the purpose of: 1) appointing and bestowing recognition awards and scholarships to outstanding Maine high school scholar-athletes; and, 2) to formally honor and memorialize Maine athletes and sports figures who have brought distinction and honor to the state of Maine.
