Education:

William Mark Whitmore has, for four years, maintained the highest academic average among his 131 classmates at Ellsworth High School. He has also made the National Honor Society during two of his four years' matriculation, received the National Merit letter of Commendation, and has been elected to Boys' State. With all this dedication, and accomplishment academically, he has played goalie for four years on the school's soccer team, elected Captain his senior year, and has twenty-four shutouts to his credit. Those credentials earned for him a two time selection to the state All-Division team, appointment to the Eastern Maine All-Star team as a freshman in the "B" classification, and as a senior he made the Eastern "A" All-Star team. Scoring 1,060 points, third highest in Ellsworth High School attests to Bill Whitmore's basketball abilities, just as does his three year record of being the team's top foul shooter, with thiry consecutive baskets made from the foul line during tournament play, plus being Captain of the team during his sophomore and junior years, a team which made the semi-finals and finals of Class "B" championship play. In addition to his soccer and basketball accolades, Bill played four years of varsity baseball as an outfielder, playing with the Eastern Maine Class "B" Champions as a sophomore.
