Matthew is ranked # 1 in his class of 175 with a GPA of 13.94. He will attend Bucknell, Clemson, or the University of Maine at Orono with a major in Biomedical Engineering. He is the son of Holly and Brian Hallowell.
Matt participated in Cross Country and Swimming for the Ship Builders and served as team Captain in each of those sports. His strength was in swimming, however, where he excelled in several events. He was named as his team's MVP each of his four seasons and was a Maine All-Star for three years, was KVAC Swimmer of the Meet his senior year, was on the All-State swim team and was named Class A Swimmer of the Year, Matt also holds several school records for Morse. "He set the pace for the rest of the swim team and his excellent leadership skills made him an outstanding team captain for his junior and senior years."
He is the recipient of the Yale Book Award, and a member of National Honor Society, Dirigo Boys' State, and presented at the New England Science Symposium. His volunteer work included the Morse High Accreditation Committee, Red Cross Blood Drive, and the Alzheimer Walk. "He is a very strong student, a very strong athlete, and a young person with a strong conviction to make his place of study and his community a better place."

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 for the purpose of: 1) appointing and bestowing recognition awards and scholarships to outstanding Maine high school scholar-athletes; and, 2) to formally honor and memorialize Maine athletes and sports figures who have brought distinction and honor to the state of Maine.
