Millar is a WWII United States Marine Corp. Veteran. A Korean War Veteran and was employed by the United States Post Office from 1952-1981.

His achicvcments include:

  • Co-Founder of Houlton Hockey in 1966
  • For his lifelong commitment to youth, hockey and skating the civic center dedicated as the John A. Millar Civic Center, 1980
  • Organized Northern Maine Hockey Association
  • Charter Member of the Maine Sports Hall of Fame
  • Member of the Board of Directors and Past Member of the Honors and Selection Committee of the MSHF.
  • Commissioner of the Houlton Little League

John is survived by his son, John A. Millar IV, and his wife Susan of Weare. NH, his two daughters, Beth Millar of Auburn and Mary Ann Sisette and her husband Michael of Lewiston.

Our Mission

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 for the purpose of: 1) appointing and bestowing recognition awards and scholarships to outstanding Maine high school scholar-athletes; and, 2) to formally honor and memorialize Maine athletes and sports figures who have brought distinction and honor to the state of Maine.
