Megan Urban

One of the top girls basketball players in the state of Maine, Megan Urban has participated in three sports at Deering High School in Portland and has been a member of two regional or state championship teams. A two-year varsity field hockey player, she was the goalkeeper for the Rams' Western Maine Class A championship field hockey team in 2003 and earned SMAA All-Academic honors. A four-year varsity basketball player, she was an All-SMAA in her junior year and repeated that honor during her senior campaign. An All-State selection during her senior season, she led the Rams on their run to the State Class A championship last March. Megan was one of the top scorers in Western Maine Class A and was named Player-of-the-Year by the Maine Sunday Telegram. Megan is also a member of the Deering outdoor track and field squad.

Megan is ranked ninth in her class of 335 students and bas a career average of 96.260. She is a member of the Deering math team, Key Club, and French Club, where she serves as secretary. A member of the Deering chapter of the National Honor Society, Megan has received the Anatomy of Leadership and Kiwanis Club Service Awards.

Megan is headed for Assumption College in the fall where she plans to major in mathematics with an education minor. She will be playing basketball for the Greyhounds of Assumption next winter. She is the daughter of Rick and Nola Urban of Portland.

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 for the purpose of: 1) appointing and bestowing recognition awards and scholarships to outstanding Maine high school scholar-athletes; and, 2) to formally honor and memorialize Maine athletes and sports figures who have brought distinction and honor to the state of Maine.
