Liana Rubinoff

A four-sport standout at Cheverus High School, Liana Rubinoff participated in cross country, basketball, indoor track, and outdoor track during her four-year career. She is a four-year cross country participant and capped her senior year by serving as captain of the Class A state championship squad. Liana was a Southwestern Maine Activities Association First Team All-Star as a senior and was named to the Maine Track and Field Coaches Association as an All-Star in cross country.

Liana has excelled in indoor and outdoor track during her time at Cheverus. An outstanding leader, she was captain of the indoor squad during her senior year. She was first in the two-mile run in the Southwestern Championships and also qualified to compete in that event at the Class A state championships. Liona starred in both the 1,600 meter and 3,200 meter events in outdoor track and finished in third place in both the conference and the state meets in the latter event as a junior.

In addition to her athletic pursuits, Liona has been an important contributor to the Cheverus community. She is a member of the National Honor Society and participated in the Key Club. She has served as a volunteer at Southern Maine Medical Center and at The Cedars Assisted Living Home. Liana has also been active in the school's Haiti Solidarity Club and has worked to spread awareness of poverty in that nation. She has received academic awards for chemistry Spanish, and pre-calculus.

Liana has a career grade point average of 4.09 and ranks 3rd in her class of 132 students. She will attend Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts next year and plans to major in biochemistry. Liana is the daughter of Ann Marie and Steve Rubinoff and lives in Portland.

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 for the purpose of: 1) appointing and bestowing recognition awards and scholarships to outstanding Maine high school scholar-athletes; and, 2) to formally honor and memorialize Maine athletes and sports figures who have brought distinction and honor to the state of Maine.
