Harold Lyons

One of the Downeast Athletic Conference's top student-athletes, Harold Lyons has excelled in soccer, basketball, and baseball at Jonesport-Beals High School. Harold has played varsity soccer for four years for the Royals and was named team captain in 2008 and 2009. In both his junior and senior years he was named as a Downeast Athletic Conference All-Star.

Harold has also excelled on the hardwood. He has played four years of basketball at Jonesport-Beals and was captain of the team during his senior season. A tenacious player on the defensive end of the floor, he received the Best Defensive Player Award in both 2007-2008 and 2008-2009. In addition, Harold has played four seasons of baseball at Jonesport-Beals High School. He was named a National Student-Athlete Award winner during his sophomore year.

In addition to his athletic pursuits, Harold has proven to be an outstanding student leader at his school. He is a member of the Jonesport-Beals chapter of the National Honor Society and served as his class treasurer for four years. He represented his school at Dirigo Boys State and has been recognized with the MPA Principal's Award. Harold has also been a district winner in the Voice of Democracy contest and has participated in the Lobster Conservancy Monitoring Program since his sophomore year.

Harold ranks first in his class of twenty students. He plans to continue his education at the University of Maine in Orono where he will major in biology. Harold is the son of R. Shawn and Sylvina Lyons and resides in Beals.

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 for the purpose of: 1) appointing and bestowing recognition awards and scholarships to outstanding Maine high school scholar-athletes; and, 2) to formally honor and memorialize Maine athletes and sports figures who have brought distinction and honor to the state of Maine.
