2nd MSHOF Webinar with Masthead Media

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame is joining with Masthead Media to host its second Student Athlete Webinar on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. Students are invited to sign up for one or all three of the fifty-minute sessions. The nine o’clock hour will focus on Careers in Sports Media moderated by Steve Craig of the Portland Press Herald. He will be joined by Jessica Gagne, formerly of NEWS CENTER Maine. She is the only woman to win the Maine Sportscaster of the Year Award. They will be joined by Travis Lazarczyk of the Waterville Sentinel and Kennebec Journal. Travis was named the 2019 Maine Sportswriter of the Year.

At ten o’clock, the topic will switch to Careers in Sports Marketing. Boston Red Sox Senior Manager of Marketing Kelsey Doherty of Old Orchard is one of the biggest influencers in New England sports. Among her duties is to live Tweet Red Sox games. She is one of two people who can transmit a digital message for the Sox, be it on Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok or Facebook. She’ll be joined by a former mentor, Brian Corcoran who is Founder and CEO of Shamrock Sports. BC has 25 years of experience at all levels of sports marketing with a few of his clients having included the PGA, NASCAR and the NHL. Dr. Jo Williams will round out the panel. Dean Williams teaches sport management courses within the Business College at the University of Southern Maine. She was formerly the Tournament Director of the McCall’s LPGA Classic.

At eleven, we will have an informal discussion about picking a college and how sports fits in. Georgetown University Baseball Coach Edwin Thompson has coached at UM-Farmington, Bates, Eastern Kentucky and Georgetown. He also played at Howard, Maryland and Webber. He’ll be joined by Georgia Bolduc. Georgia was a 2013 winner of a Maine Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship. She went on to Bowdoin and is in her final year at Boston University Law School. She will enter private practice in Maine this fall.

The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1972 for the purpose of: 1) appointing and bestowing recognition awards and scholarships to outstanding Maine high school scholar-athletes; and, 2) to formally honor and memorialize Maine athletes and sports figures who have brought distinction and honor to the state of Maine.
